It's been a few days since I posted anything, so I figured I'd do the weekend update. :) I spent the whole day with Dad yesterday - I arrived at about 11 and left around 7-ish. I think he had a pretty good day. He didn't want to eat anything, but had a couple of Ensures, so at least he's getting some calories. The left side of his neck was really swollen and painful when I arrived, but the right side had gone down. By the time I left, the swelling had reduced a little and he said it didn't hurt as much. Right when I got there Erin called, and Dad was feeling pretty good so he talked to her for a few minutes. She'll be out here for a couple days early next week, yay!
I brought some colored pencils and paper, my laptop and a couple books to keep myself occupied. I also brought some nail care stuff, just in case he wanted a pseudo-pedi. He slept a while, and I just occupied myself with my stuff. At first I tried to sketch him sleeping, but it turns out my sketching of 3 dimensional things sucks ass. So I just drew a few of my creatures, which turned out great. After Dad woke up I gave him a pedicure, spending extra time with the massage part. I used some gloves because well, anyone who knows me knows that I am not a lover of the feets. He really enjoyed it, but I noticed that he's got some edema in his feet and ankles. Apparently this can be a side effect of the chemo, but I'm not sure if it's a concerning side effect or just something to keep an eye on - if it's still bad today I'll mention it to the doc and see what she says. Later I also cleaned his fingernails and gave him hand/arm massages, for which I did not need gloves. :D
While I was sitting there on my computer, I rested my foot on the bed, trying to be stealthy so I wouldn't wake him up. Turns out I'm not so good at the stealthy thing either. :) He said "just so you know, it makes me feel good when your foot is touching me, just so I know you're there, maybe it's the drugs or something, but it feels really nice." I laughed - because while the drugs might make it feel even better, he's always been a very touchy feely kind of guy, and I said as much. He agreed.
Later, as I was leaving, I asked if he needed anything and he said no, then I started to walk out the door and he said "oh, can you plug in my cell phone?" No problem. He started to apologize for keeping me, silly Dad, I had to make sure he knew I didn't mind! Then I said "anything else?" and he said no. I started to walk out the door and he raised his hand and goes "oh, could you..." and smiled. I smacked his leg, called him a smart ass and told him I love him, then said good night.
I'm heading back over today, probably more of the same, just hangin out and whatnot. I was supposed to go hang out with my friend Nicole in SF today, but she got her weekends mixed up, so we'll try again next week. :o)
Oh, Jennie Kay said she visited him on Friday - I didn't know and Dad didn't mention it, but I wanted to say thanks for taking the time to go see him Jennie! :)
